Rain C. Goméz

Poet, musician, and academic Rain C. Goméz is originally from Louisiana. She earned a BA from Seton Hill University and an MA at Michigan State University. Currently, Goméz is completing her PhD in literary and cultural studies at the University of Oklahoma, where she is studying Louisiana Choctaw, Mvskoke, and Louisiana Creole ancestry on her father’s side and Canadian métis and Celtic American on her mother’s. Goméz’s critical and creative work deals with issues of material cultural inheritance, storytelling, and transnational Southern literary critical theory. Her first book of poetry, Smoked Mullet Cornbread Crawdad Memory (2012), won the First Book Award in Poetry from the Native Writers’ Circle of the Americas.
 
Goméz is the national secretary for Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers. She lives in Oklahoma with her husband, the musician Vic Goméz.
