Job Opportunity

About poetryfoundation.org:
Poetryfoundation.org is one of the leading websites for American poetry. Its edgy, lively feature articles, blog, audio and video podcasts, and news are widely read or heard by those who seek out arts and culture on the Internet. Along with this frequently updated editorial content, which includes the monthly content of Poetry magazine, the site includes a comprehensive archive of more than 7,500 poems by over 600 classic and contemporary poets. This combination has led to both steadily increasing traffic and steadily increasing technical complexity, which has led to the need for a web project manager.

Job Description:
The web project manager is responsible for the online experience of poetryfoundation.org, which requires defining website upgrades and additions to poetryfoundation.org as well as managing those projects through the web design, development, and implementation process. The web project manager works closely with the editor of poetryfoundation.org so that the web projects are designed to realize both the mission of the Poetry Foundation and the goals of visitors to the site. The web project manager creates and manages an annual project road map, which provides a master schedule for all projects and a plan for each individual project.

In addition to the editor, the project manager works closely with other senior staff and our web design, development, website hosting, and audio and video consultants at different stages of developing a project plan. Depending on the project, the plans will include the following components:
  • Creative brief

  • Budget

Qualifications:
  • Two to three years of experience as a web project or web development manager
  • Solid knowledge of usercentric design, including information architecture and usability
  • Good track record of delivering projects on time
  • Strong project management skills, including meeting management, communications, reporting, setting and adhering to schedules, and multitasking
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong collaborative skills
  • Knowledge of current web design trends and techniques
  • Knowledge of digital imaging and illustration with Adobe Photoshop or other graphics application, with formal training an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards-compliant HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS and dynamic HTML, and cross-browser web development issues
  • Knowledge of standards-compliant database architecture for high-volume websites preferred
  • Understanding of web server configurations and web hosting services
  • BA/BS or MS in computer science or related field is preferred

Salary:
This position offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Full-time, exempt.
