The FCC has decency standards, which is why The Sopranos (no matter how brilliant it is as art) can&#039;t be on NBC. Heck, the major networks wouldn&#039;t even air Saving Private Ryan. Hate speech doesn&#039;t belong on our public airwaves.
If Imus wants to spurt hate speech, he can get an indie radio show on satellite, and no one can stop him. But he can&#039;t have two of the Big Three networks as his platform.
