I think this is the key. Both have their advantages.
By the way, I&#039;m not complaining. I&#039;m really happy where I am. It might seem suffocating to you, but I sort of like the studiousness and isolation of academia. It also seems to have a really long shelf life that transcends an event, as thrilling as it might be. I&#039;m interested in things being cooler, maybe colder, more distant. The last thing I want is to meet my readership in the flesh!

I am sorry that you feel you don&#039;t exist beyond the academy. That would seem to be a very small and suffocating existence.  Slam poetry has been a conduit directly to the people I want to meet, to the people i want to read and be affected by my poetry.
