Every year that I'm at Calabash I feel as if I'm a part of history, that I'm present at something that will be used as a blueprint for future generations. This year was no different. Every moment of this weekend was special. There is something holy about a writer reading under a thatch roof while the rain frames his voice. And we worshipped at the feet of the women, Patricia Smith, Elizabeth Alexander & Susan Linda Jackson on Saturday. Calabash is heaven for a writer & today, returning to life in Kingston, I feel like Satan kicked out from under God. Kwame, you have more than secured your legacy!

Ate two mangos today because of your post. I'm sure these (imported from Haiti) were nothing compared to what you've got and I didn't hear a single poem or meet a single poet today. Oh, sad New York. Enjoy!

Dear Poets and Poetry Lovers!,
This isn't a poem. I just want to tell everyone about an upcoming revamped version of Love Across Borders. I'm not very active on the Poetry Foundation, however I've been a lurker for a good period of time. I'd like to plug my poetry related web site a bit here during this introduction.
<a href="http://www.loveacrossborders.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.loveacrossborders.com</a>
Love Across Borders is what we like to call, "Community Publishing". It has the benefit of allowing anyone to publish their poetry to the front page of our community site. You post a poem and put it into a genre(s) and/or type(s) of poems, and there is also the ability to add tags which describe the piece of work. Users can come to add reviews (comments and ratings), add their own tags, and create new discussions. The site now features the works of amateur and professional poets, free poetry book downloads, user submitted reviews, tagging, and discussion forums. One future feature in the works right now will be the option for a poet to choose to publish and sell their works of poetry. Otherwise, right now all poetry is just posted to the web site for the sake of sharing.
I have a few thousands poems myself that I'm planning to post on Community Publishing over the next few months, along with some friends of mine. I hope that you'll check it out and join up.

Kwame,
Did you just say that you and Patricia were riding around in motorized canoes among dolphins?? That sounds like paradise. (And I dig the mangrove branches being compared to graying locks!) Sounds like the festival is off to a blessed start. If you think of it, give Terrance a big hug from me.
