Ah what a beautiful reflection on a beautiful poem. Thank you, Kwame, for taking me back to "Rice" just when I need it most. My evening is now planned and I can't wait to return to my room, curled up to participate in Nikky Finney's absolutely wonderful book. I am reminded of when it was released, what joy I felt when she came through town with this gift. Kwame, my toes are tapping with the memory you've stoked, with the sweet anticipation of an evening wrapped in such a nutritional embrace. Thank you.

Nikky Finney listens and waits and what comes is wound, wonder, sharp. I returned to RICE tonight because of this post. You've always said that Nikky is a force. You are right on. Thanks for introducing her here. How is it possible that this poem is both Good Friday AND Easter?
