Aracelis Girmay's work is distinctive, contrapuntal, artistic and responsible. TEETH is odd and one of the very few collections I'll return to again and again.

GOD yes, this book is so amazing. Tears, lumps in throats, unflinching images. So so so amazing.
Speaking of "so so so." Here's something else intriguing: We talked in class about her repeating certain words, like "yes." Here she does it again: the good, good body flew out. On fishousepoems.org, listen to her talk...not where she recites a poem, mind you (though folks should hear that too), but rather where she talks process: the audio snippet is called, On Her Writing Time. She repeats a word there too. The pattern is in her very conversation.
I don't mean to embarrass her in a public forum, but it's a rare and special gift when a poet is SUCH a poet that they can speak, converse, their poetry into the air, instantly.
Kinda makes me want to be a poet!
