Not enough spoken word poets do this. Some do for money, others withdraw into themselves (oh, tortured artist!) and many don't have a "third eye" large enough to see the big picture. And amen to the end of "me" poems too. So many very talented artists in my little hometown (Richmond, VA) still write/perform poems solely based on their perspective. And too many don't have the courage to switch it up.
