Nicolas was outside the Brooklyn Museum. First we asked his mom the question, "what is poetry?" She told us we should really ask her son because he was the writer (mom was sitting about 100 feet away from Nicolas to give him space to learn to skateboard from the older kids). He is a real superstar.

Hurray for Nicolas! He's a shining star! Where are you working with him?

Here's eioghth-grader Darien Crecy's Blue poem:

BLUE

blue is a feeling I feel when I can’t express myself
because of the shell that holds me tight inside.
I want to get out and let the real me inside this shell,
this blue, blue shell, get out
but somehow I cannot escape.
I cannot find the key.
It is in the meadow of life
lost in the grass somewhere.
Nobody would understand me.
If they could, would they be able to help?
Only I know where the key is
yet I cannot find it.
Until I do, I will have to stay inside this shell
this blue, blue shell.
