Yeah, it's me. So Aaron's guess was so close, but mine was WAY off? You've made my mind hurt! Oh, wait. I just spotted the "jk". Not fair! I don't own a mobile. And your birfday comes after A. Tree, A. Rose, me, Charlie, Jeffrey, A. Cat, Bill, RoAnne, U. Robert, Vince, and A. Jeanette. Oy, I probly miss someone in there, too. ;)

You can listen to Tara at Rachelle Cruz's The Blood-Jet Writing Hour here:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/onword/2009/07/31/-The-Blood-Jet-Writing-Hour-with-Rachelle-Cruz

I haven't heard Tara live, but what I have heard of her (in recording) I'd say there is no difference between the written and spoken word, hence her work's rhythmic qualities, which you note. Some of the most interesting and exciting poetry I hear and read has no line drawn between the performance/recitation, and the page presentation.

i’ve never heard tara’s spoken word work…i wonder is it different from her written work? or is the written work made spoken? or is there no difference.

When it comes to Betts, no difference. The orature and literature stand together side-by-side with no false dichotomies.

thanks O. i've never heard tara's spoken word work...i wonder is it different from her written work? or is the written work made spoken? or is there no difference. hmm. one thing i noted in my review was the rhythmic qualities completely embedded throughout her book. deeply in the narratives.

haha your guess is way off too!

truly an honor to engage here...tho i seriously considered walking the streets of berkeley with my handheld video camera and asking every ethnic person i ran into, "what is poetry?" but that seemed a little silly since there are so many ethnic writers publishing poetry that i could instead highlight their work.

oops,

Great review, Craig. I'm glad you, Barbara, and Harriet have highlighted this book.

I've known Tara since 2001 when she was reading from her chapbook SWITCH. Her commitment to the written and spoken word was true and fierce then and has just continued to intensify through the years. Arc & Hue is a wonderful testament to the commitment.

And, oh yeah, you can reach mah man Pablo at cantogeneral@gmail.com.

You'd think a poet as gangsta as Neruda would have his own domain, so my guess is poeta@neruda.com.

Great review, Craig. Glad to share this space with you.
