Regie Gibson is indeed a great, inspiring performer. I had him here to read in Freeport some years back, shortly after he'd won the National Slam tournament. I picked him up at O'Hare (I think he'd just moved to Boston at that time), and I promptly took the wrong turn out of the airport, getting us hopelessly lost. We somehow wound our way up into Wisconsin, where we got lost some more. All in all, we spent about five hours in the car, plus one more at a bar, in some farm hamlet. One of the most interesting six-hours of conversation with a poet I've ever had. We barely made it to the reading on time. About fifty people were outside, unable to get in, the place was so packed.
