Thanks SO much. Some of the most interesting thought pieces offered hereabouts in months.
The Sontag piece is a gem. Her rare ability to “think.” And a potent reminder of what Bergman was doing in ‘The Silence’ — both manipulation, and the reach for what is beynd language. What the spirit wants to hold and say and cannot. Also useful and memorable to me is, this quote :” the efficacious art work leaves silence in its wake.” This puts the lie to works that babble and leave babble in their wake. what a huge difference.
