Letter from Poetry Magazine

Letter to the Editor

by Phil Ward

Dear Editor,

I was so impressed by your “Antagonisms” section that it did just the opposite for me: it actually helped me appreciate my love for a few poets by knocking them off their pedestals. Too often we fail to see how good a poet really is because she is wrapped in some sort of academic gauze to preserve her (or perhaps her critics’) reputation.

Thanks for a great section. While we learn much from true friends, we learn even more from dedicated antagonists. I hope you run this feature more often than every ten years.
