DESCRIPTION:Born in the German-speaking town Nitzkydorf in Banat, Romania in 1953, Nobel Laureate Herta Müller has written about exile, violence, and politics, and is known for her criticism of Romania’s oppressive regime under Nicolae Ceauşescu. When awarding her the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2009, the Swedish Academy described Müller as a woman “who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed.” The celebrated writer will read collage poetry and from her novel The Hunger Angel (Atemshaukel) in her native German accompanied by English translation.
