Creating Frontlines: Emergent Resistance Art & Performance
Join us for a gallery reception, panel discussion, and performances featuring Kristiana Rae Colón, Bria M. Royal, Damon Williams, avery r. young, and music by Bomba con Buya. Revolution is not simply about dismantling the oppressive systems we resist; it is also about building what comes next. Artists and creatives have always been on the vanguard of social change, imagining new possibilities, disrupting the status quo, and envisioning the systems we must build to force violent structures into obsolescence.
Creating Frontlines: Emergent Resistance Art & Performance celebrates the cultural production of Chicago's resistance communities, the emergent strategies of art as a portal for challenging power, and the poetics of the frontline.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Poetry Foundation’s current exhibit, Signs of Resistance, for which Chicago poets, artists, and organizing communities were invited to contribute signs of resistance: posters, banners, and other ephemera of direct action in response to social unrest.
