Poet Lorraine Schechter to Read at Printers Row Lit Fest
CHICAGO — The Poetry Foundation is proud to present New Mexico poet Lorraine Schechter as part of the Printers Row Lit Fest. Schechter will read from her poetry collection, The Seasons of Yes, on Saturday, June 12, at 12:45PM.
Winner of the 2008 New Mexico Book Award in Poetry, Schechter says The Seasons of Yes was written during “a six-year period when the need to write was as urgent as the need for water or food.” Also a winner of the Recursos/Southwest Writers Discovery Contest, Schechter has published her poetry in such journals as Santa Fe Poetry Broadside, Borderlands: The Texas Poetry Review, Clackamas Literary Review, and numerous anthologies.
Responsible for establishing the nationwide high school poetry recitation contest Poetry Out Loud in the state of New Mexico, Lorraine Schechter has worked as an educator in the arts for more than 35 years. She is also an artist whose innovative collection of paper sculpture card designs was first published by the Museum of Modern Art.
Lorraine Schechter joins more than 200 other authors at the Printers Row Lit Fest, which bills itself as “largest free literary event in the Midwest.”
