New Journal Altered Scale Features Maria Damon

By Harriet Staff

“D”s for Dusie (A big crowned D for Dusie Press and Dusie Kollektiv, for Susana Gardner, Dusie’s founder)

Altered Scale is a new online journal, edited and curated by poet Jefferson Hansen, which features poetry, visual art, music and criticism. Hansen arranges the journal into a series of galleries designed, as he puts it, to “create maximum musical interplay through juxtaposition and placement.” Gallery 9, for example, includes poems by Michael Basinski, collaborative pieces by Kathleen Rooney & Elisa Gabbert and work by Terrence Folz.

We’re especially excited about the Maria Damon feature in the current issue, which includes an introduction by Alan Sondheim as well as a selection of Damon’s “Cross-Stitch Poetry.”

Jefferson Hansen is the author of …and Beefheart Saved Craig (BlazeVox). On the Altered Scale blog, he describes his editorial vision for the journal:

The journal’s uniqueness, I hope, lies in the concept of mini-galleries. I organize webpages within the journal around a group of artworks that I see as implicitly working with some aspect of music—tone, harmony, disharmony, atonality, rhythm, and so on—in ways that can be fruitfully compared, both through similarity and dissonance and clatter.

You can read, view and listen to more work at Altered Scale, or visit the Altered Scale blog.
