Talk a Walk, Get Some Poem Fodder

By Harriet Staff

If you're in Chicago and want to step out into the world to collect poem materials, head to the Annex at Spudnik Press on July 14th to take a class and a walk. John Rich, founding member of Chicago Writers House and Chicago Book Expo, will be leading the way, and describes the class thus:

Finding the start of a story can be as easy as taking a walk. In this workshop, participants execute a neighborhood stroll as a means to conduct research. That which is found – castaway ephemera and observable phenomena – becomes the material used to write micro-narratives. Then, in guided and free-write exercises, participants stitch these excerpts into larger compositions that reflect the physical world, imagined circumstance, and the aura of place. You’ll walk away with story gems suitable for polishing.

We're sure there's a lot of material to be gathered. Sign up can be done here.
