What’s Cooking, July 4th?

Not sure? One good place to look is this “Poets’ Recipes” spotlight at the Academy of American Poets. The spotlight includes a few handy recipes including Chocolate Peanut Butter Dairy Free Ice Cream from Kazim Ali, Potato Salad from Dodie Bellamy and Kevin Killian (it’s Dodie’s mother’s recipe!), German Apple Pancake from Jen Bervin, and Vegan Bunny Fries from CA Conrad.

Cooking, much like poetry, is a creative process. Food has served as inspiration and metaphor in poems like Emily Dickinson’s “Fame is a fickle food (1659)” and Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons [Chicken]. Famously, Dickinson also had a handwritten recipe for coconut cake, which she enjoyed making.
