61 West Superior Street
Chicago theater veteran Beau O’Reilly, the author of over 75 plays, celebrates his 60th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the Rhinoceros Theater Festival with the premiere of his own 60 Story Animal. An investigation of the theatrical work and poetry of Samuel Beckett, 60 Story Animal adapts text from Rockaby, Texts for Nothing, and some of Beckett’s poems. Performed with Judith Harding and music by Jenny Magnus and premiering at the Poetry Foundation, 60 Story Animal will move to various theaters throughout Chicago (Prop Thtr, the side project, Center Portion) with guests like Kelly Ann Corcoran, Ann Calcagno and David Isaacson.
This exhibition presents photographs and ephemera from the poet Jun Fujita (1888-1963). Fujita is an English-language tanka poet who published regularly in Poetry during the 1920s. The first Japanese-American photojournalist, he is responsible for the most famous photos of the Eastland disaster, the Chicago race riots of 1919, and the St. Valentine’s Day massacre, among others. This show will explore his lesser-known landscapes.
