Poetry Off the Shelf: Todd Swift & John Wilkinson
Tuesday, September 23rd, 7:00 PM
61 West Superior Street
Two notable British poets read from new volumes of their respective selected poems,
and discuss the state of contemporary poetry in the UK. Todd Swift is Senior Lecturer in Creative & Professional Writing at the University of Worcester and Director of Eyewear Publishing. John Wilkinson chairs the Committee on Creative Writing at the University of Chicago and also teaches in the department of English Language and Literature.
This exhibition showcases highlights from the literary archives of Gwendolyn E. Brooks (1917–2000), Illinois Poet Laureate and the first black winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Brooks’s papers include youthful poetry and prose, scrapbooks of pieces she published as a young woman, extensive correspondence with a significant roster of other writers, and manuscript drafts and proofs, especially after she left mainstream publishing to produce her works with black-owned presses.
