Heather McHugh (1948 - )

BIOGRAPHY

Heather McHugh was appointed Milliman Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1984. She's also a frequent visitor at the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College in Asheville NC. She served for 5 years as a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Wesleyan University Press has published a number of poetry collections (including translations) as well as her collection of essays Broken English: Poetry and Partiality. Heather McHugh's new book of poems, Upgraded to Serious, is due from Copper Canyon in the fall of 2009.
