Rich Murphy is the author of the full-length poetry collections Elephant (Bass Clef Books, 2025), Mind of Europe (Cyberwit, 2025), Inside Stories (Wipf & Stock Publishers, 2024), First Aid (Resource Publications, 2023), Footholds (Cyberwit, 2023), and others. His collection Americana (Press Americana, 2013) was named a winner of the Prize Americana and Voyeur (2008), winner of a Gival Press Poetry Award and Los Angeles Book Festival Award. He has also published six chapbooks.
Murphy’s critical essays have been published in The International Journal of the Humanities, Journal of Ecocriticism, Imaginary Syllabi, and Reconfigurations: A Journal for Poetics & Poetry/Literature & Culture, among others. Some of these essays on poetics and poetry were collected in Prophetic Voice Now (2020). He has taught at several colleges and universities where he has directed writing programs and has taught creative and academic writing and literature. He lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
