Willie Perdomo
Poet Willie Perdomo grew up in East Harlem, and his poetry and books for children explore the textures and rhythms of New York City. His collections of poetry include Where a Nickel Costs a Dime (1996), Postcards of El Barrio (2002), Smoking Lovely (2004), which won the PEN Open Book Award, and The Essential Hits of Shorty Bon Bon (2014). His works for children include Visiting Langston (illustrated by Bryan Collier, 2005), which received the Coretta Scott King Honor, and Clemente! (illustrated by Bryan Collier, 2010), named one of the Top 10 Sports Books for Youth by Booklist Online.

Perdomo’s honors and awards include fellowships from Columbia University and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He is on faculty of the VONA Writing Workshop and the National Endowment for Humanities Summer Seminar, and has taught at Fordham University. The cofounder and publisher of Cypher Books, Perdomo lives in New York.
