Can poetry deter kleptomaniacs?

Owners of a vacation home fret over guests with sticky fingers. Miss Manners advises against using poetry to deter their bad behavior:

A warning, however coyly worded, would insult your honest guests. Miss Manners suggests you limit your guest list to them.
