The Maui Poetry Body Slam
Here’s a suggestion to lift the spirits of all those poets rejected by the Paris Review: hop a plane to Maui for the annual Poetry Body Slam (don’t forget to pack 3-D glasses, body paint, drugs):
With this literary equivalent to a mosh pit, Shakespeare may roll over in his sonnet-strewn grave, but for Mauians living in the 21st century, Maui Slam Poetry’s Body Slams are cutting edge events which combine literary, performing and visual arts.
During Maui Slam Poetry’s Body Slams, visual art is improvised and created by way of body painting, in response to the performance poetry, giving the participants and audience alike a wide exposure to the arts as well as an immediate and transformative experience . . .
