In 2005, the robotic head of Philip K. Dick was unveiled at NextFest. The robot head, produced by a collaboration between Hanson Robotics, the FedEx Institute of Technology and the Automation and Robotics Research Institute at the University of Texas Arlington, was life-like and was programmed to respond to visitors’ questions, kind of like a chatbot. Apparently in the last few years the head had fallen into disrepair, but now it has been rebuilt by Hanson Robotics, who tweeted this demonstrative YouTube video. Creepy not only because a talking robotic head is inherently creepy, but also because the whole project is simply TOO appropriate. So appropriate that it's creepy. And, of course, amazing.
