New Directions Turns 75!
New Directions -- early publishers of Marianne Moore, Wallace Stevens, Robert Creeley, Jorge Luis Borges, and oh so many more -- turns 75 this year and they're throwing themselves a gigantic party to celebrate. There will be readings throughout the month of October, culminating with an event TONIGHT LAST NIGHT in the Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York.
According to the New Directions blog, fans will gather to read from their favorite New Directions books. But not just, like, ordinary fans. Paul Auster, Carroll Baker, Helen DeWitt, Nicole Krauss, Francine Prose, Lou Reed, and Muriel Spark will all contribute. It's also rumored that the Anne Carson reading will feature dancers and live saxophone accompaniment. It's true.
