Panda!

Poet Chris Alexander's new work consists of collecting descriptions of the main character from the film Kung-Fu Panda, and posting those descriptions online, along with terrific pictures of pandas and people in panda costumes. Alexander has been disseminating Panda! in many forms, including on Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook. It'll also be published as a regular old book, forthcoming. Here are some recent samples:

A panda who’s not the most likely candidate for Dragon Warrior.

A clumsy, hungry panda who can’t stop eating or goofing around long enough to complete his training.

A lazy, irreverent slacker panda who is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around.

Not only does the form of the piece (a very selective large-scale appropriation project) challenge certain poetic norms, but the distribution of the piece in a variety of mediums challenges the way we think of “finished” poems as collected in “books.”
