Let’s Talk About Art: Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home
Join us for a two-part program inspired by Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home, an exhibition at the Poetry Foundation featuring the work of photographer Constance Jaeggi and poets Angelina Sáenz and ire’ne lara silva. Through poetry and imagery, the exhibition explores the escaramuza tradition and broader themes of identity, ritual, and belonging.
In Part I, poets Angelina Sáenz and ire’ne lara silva join us in an intimate online gathering to read from their work, discuss their creative processes, and reflect on their collaboration with Jaeggi. Participants will be invited into conversation around themes of home, ancestry, and self-expression.
In Part II, we meet in person at the Poetry Foundation for a guided walk-through of the exhibition, followed by a writing workshop. Together, we will create self-portrait poems that celebrate the power of adornment and personal memory. Attendees are encouraged to wear or bring an item that makes them feel powerful, beautiful, or connected.
Presented in partnership with the Hyde Park Art Center’s Artful Aging Program, this program is intended for adults aged 65 and older. Registration is required for each session; space is limited.
