Does he ask if poetry hits you in the heart or the ear? I think he does. And if so–that is the question, crazy dude. That is the question.
And here is the answer I am inclined to.
“I don’t wish to touch hearts. I don’t even
want to affect minds very much. What I really want to produce is that little sob in the spine of the artist-reader.” Nabokov.
He asks if it “tickles you in the heart or the ear.” Where else would it tickle?
