The Academy of American Poets Announces: Teach This Poem
Attention teachers, who are also poetry-lovers! This September, the Academy of American Poets is launching "Teach This Poem." The new initiative is an on-going, daily, subscription-based series modeled after the organization's popular "Poem-A-Day" series designed to assist K-12 teachers with incorporating poetry into everyday classroom curriculum. Produced for K-12 educators, Teach This Poem will feature one poem a week from our online poetry collection, accompanied by interdisciplinary resources and activities designed to help teachers quickly and easily bring poetry into the classroom. The series is curated by our Educator in Residence, Dr. Madeleine Fuchs Holzer, and will be available for free via email beginning September 2, 2015.
“The Academy of American Poets has provided resources to teachers for more than fifty years. With Teach This Poem, we’re responding to the two things we’ve heard from K-12 teachers consistently this past year—they appreciate the lesson plans we make available on Poets.org, and they’d love a version of Poem-a-Day to share with their diverse students,” said Jennifer Benka, Executive Director of the Academy of American Poets.
