The case of the "Midnight Poet": a town talks back

Last week, we reported on the mysterious poet leaving late night messages at the homes of innocent citizens in Morgantown, West Virginia. Today, residents speak out about the sly poet, and what the cryptic messages could possibly mean.

From the State Journal:

So far, nobody has been able to pinpoint the identity of the Midnight Poet. Morgantown Police have received about ten letters from residents. But aside from trespassing, the Midnight Poet isn't breaking the law.

"Nothing is even borderline threatening that we can see. We've had some other folks look at it too, they didn't even find anything criminal either," Morgantown Police Chief, Phil Scott said.

The Goldmans are intrigued by the poems they found at their doorstep. They say they weren't aren't offended or upset in any way and do appreciate the form of expression.

"I think it's very nice for our community to have something like this, it's delightful," Irving Goldman said.

The Morgantown Police say they have utilized extra patrols at night to find where the "Midnight Poet" is lurking.
