Editorial Piedra Cuervo in Baja Engages with Gertrude Stein, Lyn Hejinian, Kathy Acker & Juliana Spahr

Our Spanish is perpetually rusty, but we've been paying attention to work published by younger writers in Tijuana and Baja California, because it is wildly innovative and socially astute. Consider Editorial Piedra Cuervo--or Stone Crow Editions, as we translate it--a small independent press in Rosarito, just south of Tijuana. Their books are typically handmade editions of poetry, prose and as-yet-undeffined genres. We're particularly keen on Gidi Loza's Desollada: Visiones Crónicas. Ensayando a Gertrude Stein, Lyn Hejinian, Kathy Acker y Juliana Spahr, which we translate as Flayed: Chronic Visions. Rehearsing Gertrude Stein, Lyn Hejinian, Kathy Acker and Juliana Spahr. "Ensayando" also has the meaning of practicing and examining, and according to Gidi Loza's blog, she wrote this text between January 2008 and December 2009 as both reflection and rewriting:

Pasé todo este tiempo leyendo, reflexionando, analizando, escribiendo, reescribiendo, repensando, el trabajo de Stein, Hejinian, Acker y Spahr.

(I spent all this time reading, reflecting, analyzing, writing, rewriting, rethinking, the work of Stein, Hejinian, Acker and Spahr).
