RIP Tomaž Šalamun

Over the weekend we learned of the death of Slovenian poet Tomaž Šalamun at the age of 73. Throughout his career, Šalamun published dozens of books of poetry in Slovenian and English, and he was awarded numerous prizes for both his poetry and translations. As a teacher in the US, Šalamun taught at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and at Columbia University as a Fulbright Fellow. Šalamun's first appearance in Poetry was in 1973 with the pom "The North," translated by Anselm Hollo and Šalamun himself. Most recently, Šalamun published three poems in the May 2014 issue of Poetry. Head here to read more about his life and his work.
