Whitman's Next Star Turn: Car Commercials

In an effort to advertise its newest model, the S90, Volvo has launched an advertising campaign ("discovering the open road") that features a commercial which pairs Walt Whitman's poem "Song of The Open Road," read by Josh Brolin, with cinematic footage of a lone S90 majestically advancing on a, well, open road. Walt Whitman died in 1892, slightly before the advent of the Volvo, so it's unclear if he'd approve of the whole affair. More:

Automakers are known to turn to famous poets from time to time to market their latest products, and now, it's Volvo's turn to do sow with the S90 "discovering the open road".

Part of the brand's North American campaign for the executive sedan, the footage uses American poet Walt Whitman's "Song of The Open Road", narrated by actor Josh Brolin, and showcases a writer in search of inspiration, away from confined spaces.
