In fact, not only is Bobby LeFebre the first Latinx poet to be appointed laureate of the state, he's the first person of color to be appointed to the role. At Denver Post, John Wenzel explains, "Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday named 37-year-old Bobby LeFebre as Colorado’s new poet laureate, adding fire to LeFebre’s red-hot reputation as a literary-minded artist who’s willing to take on thorny social and cultural issues in his home state." From there:

LeFebre is the first Latino and first person of color to earn the position, and he is believed to be the youngest poet with the title since it was created a century ago, the governor’s office told The Denver Post on Tuesday.

“Bobby LeFebre has an amazing ability to empower and connect communities through the wisdom of his words,” Polis said in a press statement. “That is why we are confident he will make a fantastic poet laureate. He embodies the spirit of a ‘Colorado for All’ where everyone is included. I know he will be a strong advocate for the arts and art education as a way to bring us together.”
