Cosmo Pieterse

B. 1930
Born in Namibia to South African parents, poet and editor Cosmo Pieterse earned a BS and an MA at the University of Cape Town. He taught in Cape Town until being expelled from South Africa in 1965. He has since taught in London, the United States (at Ohio University), and Zimbabwe.

Pieterse has edited several anthologies of African writing, including Ten One-Act Plays (1968), Protest and Conflict in South African Literature (1971, co-edited with Donald Munro), and Seven South African Poets (1971). His poetry collections include Echo and Choruses: “Ballad of the Cells” and Selected Shorter Poems (1974).
