Poet, short story writer, freelance journalist, and literary critic Megan Harlan was born in Burlington, VT, and grew up primarily in the Middle East, Latin America, and the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned a BA from Tufts University and an MFA from NYU’s Creative Writing Program. Harlan’s first book of poems, Mapmaking (2010), was selected by Sidney Wade as the winner of the 2009 John Ciardi Prize for Poetry. Alice Fulton wrote of the book, “A profound meditation on the permeability of past and present, nature and artifice, self and other, space and time, Mapmaking is a miracle of invention.” Harlan’s work has appeared in numerous publications, including American Poetry Review, AGNI Online, TriQuarterly, and the New York Times. She lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband and young son.
