William Stobb (he/him) is the author of the National Poetry Series selection, Nervous Systems (Penguin Books, 2007); Absentia (Penguin Books, 2011); You Are Still Alive (42 Miles Press, 2019); and a chapbook of desert fragments, Artifact Eleven (Black Rock Press, 2011), which explores the Great Basin and the work of land artist Michael Heizer. Selecting Stobb’s “A Moment for Authentic Shine” for the Spoon River Poetry Review Editors’ Prize, David Baker calls Stobb’s work “a postmodern corollary to Wordsworth’s Prelude.”
Stobb’s poems have been published in journals and ‘zines including TheAmerican Poetry Review, American Literary Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, DIAGRAM, Interim, Jacket, and The Kenyon Review. His honors include awards and fellowships from the Academy of American Poets, the Nevada Arts Council, the Council of Wisconsin Writers, and the Wisconsin Library Association.
Stobb has served as part of the editorial team of Conduit and its book-publishing arm, Conduit Books & Ephemera; as Chair of the Wisconsin Poet Laureate Commission; and as creator and producer of the Western Writers Interview Series for Northern Nevada Public Radio. He works as a professor on the creative writing faculty at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse.
