Alice Jones

Her books and chapbooks of include Cadence of Vanishing (Unbound Editions, 2025); Vault (2020), Plunge (2012), a finalist for the Northern California Book Award in Poetry, and Gorgeous Mourning (2004), all from Apogee Press;Extreme Directions: The fifty four moves of Tai Chi Sword (Omnidawn Press, 2002), Isthmus (2002), winner of the Jane Kenyon Chapbook Award, and The Knot (1992), which won the Beatrice Hawley Award, both from Alice James Books.
Her poems have appeared in Ploughshares, Poetry, Verse, Boston Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, The Kenyon Review,and in anthologies including Best American Poetry, Blood and Bone: Poems by Physicians and Verse and Universe: Poems about Science and Mathematics. Awards include fellowships and awards from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the First Annual Narrative Magazine Poetry Contest, as well as the Robert H. Winner Memorial Award and the Lyric Poetry Award from the Poetry Society of America.
After training in Internal Medicine, Jones completed a second residency in Psychiatry. She has practiced Psychoanalysis in Berkeley and acted as a personal and supervising analyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California.
