British poet, novelist, and playwright Helen Dunmore was born in Yorkshire, England. She was the author of over ten poetry collections, including The Malarkey (2012), Glad of These Times (2006), Out of the Blue (2001), Bestiary (1997), and Secrets (1994). Dunmore's novels include Exposure (2016), The Lie (2014), The Greatcoat (2012), The Betrayal (2010), shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and The Siege (2002), shortlisted for the Whitbread Novel of the Year Award and the Orange Prize. She also authored a dozen children's books, including The Ferry Birds (2010) and the Allie Books series (1997-2000). She died in 2017.
