Jake Skeets

Jake Skeets is Black Streak Wood, born for Water’s Edge. He is Diné from Vanderwagen, New Mexico. Skeets is the author of Horses (2026) and Eyes Bottle Dark with a Mouthful of Flowers (2019) both published by Milkweed Editions. Skeets was a winner of the 2018 Discovery/Boston Review Poetry Contest. His work has appeared in journals and magazines such as The New York Times Magazine and The Paris Review. His honors include an NEA Grant for Arts Projects, a Mellon Projecting All Voices Fellowship, and the 2023–2024 Grisham Writer in Residence at the University of Mississippi. He earned an MFA in poetry from the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is the third Navajo Nation Poet Laureate and teaches at the University of Oklahoma.
