Jay Deshpande was born in Austin, Texas, and earned a BA from Harvard University and an MFA from Columbia University. He is the author of Love the Stranger (YesYes Books, 2015). His poetry has appeared in Narrative, Boston Review, Atlas Review, and elsewhere, and his essays and criticism have appeared in magazines including Slate, the New Republic, and Publishers Weekly. Deshpande has held residencies at the Saltonstall Arts Colony and the Vermont Studio Center. He has taught at Columbia University.
